UNTITLED MARS PROJECT
Musical In Process | 2w, 2m.
Book, Music & Lyrics by Rae Covey, Story by Rae Covey & Lynn Spector

Based on a real NASA mission, this new musical-in-progress follows four participants recruited for a yearlong stay inside a Mars habitat… simulated in a warehouse in Texas. The four “astronauts” are part of an experiment meticulously crafted to mirror both the daily life and the psychological stressors — namely, isolation — that humans are expected to face in future missions to the red planet. Forgoing almost all contact with the outside world, the team puts their lives on hold in exchange for a year on “Mars.”
An early draft of the UNTITLED MARS PROJECT was presented at the Harrington Center For The Arts’ 2026 Exploration of New Works.
WHERE WE ARE
A Song Cycle | 4-12 Voices
Music & Lyrics by Rae Covey, Story by Rae Covey & Stefan Schallack

Each song in WHERE WE ARE is inspired by a map collected by the Hand Drawn Map Association. From a set of directions given to a man en route to his child’s college dropoff, to a chart of all the freckles, moles, and scars across a woman’s body throughout the course of a lifetime, the project is rich with humor, heartbreak, and humanity. With a flexible cast of quirky characters and a quirky, contemporary score, the vignette piece spans the physical and psychological terrain of characters caught between ‘Point A’ and ‘Point B.’
WHERE WE ARE was performed in concert at Joe’s Pub in January, 2024, and has been showcased at Oakland University, the National Asian Artists Project (NAAP), and in cabaret settings throughout the country. Take a listen here!
LIFEGUARDS
Musical In Process | 3w, 2m.
Music by Rae Covey, Book and Lyrics by Rae Covey & Lisa Mongillo

lifeguards is a darkly funny, tender coming-of-age musical set at a small public pool in suburban America. It follows three teenagers who spend their last summer before starting college working as lifeguards. You know – tasking seventeen year olds with saving lives, the way we sometimes do!
When rumors that an upcoming eclipse might bring about the end of the world begin to seep into their psyches, the lifeguards are forced to face the expectations they’ve built up, the fears they’ve tried to keep quiet, and what it means for a summer to matter.
NOISE
Full-Length Musical | 2w, 2m.
Book, Music & Lyrics by Rae Covey

When Dr. Kenton began conducting a study on a college campus, she thought she was on the brink of a biomedical breakthrough. Today, she appears before a jury. Elsewhere, an unlikely friendship between two college students takes a bitter turn. As these stories unfold and begin to echo one another, lines blur between the past as we remember it, and the future as we fear it. NOISE is a new musical about the interconnectedness of our pasts and our futures, and the ways we can be blinded by our ghosts.
NOISE received a workshop production at The Tank, and a reading at Emerging Artists Theatre’s 2022 New Work Series.
Music from NOISE has been performed at 54 Below, the York Theatre’s New Works Concert, the Titchfield Festival Theatre’s New Songwriters Concert (UK), the Chicago Dramatists Guild, the Allen & Gray Musical Festival’s New Voices Concert Series, the Tin Pan Alley 2 Concert Series, and Under the Arch Incubator’s New Work Cabaret (featuring the national touring cast of The Band’s Visit!)
